somebody in my school literally asked someone to prom by shaving it into his horse with the harry potter font
Watch the entire “Let It Go” scene from Frozen featuring Idina Menzel performing as Elsa.
If you don’t wanna go see Frozen, this is the best 3:39 of the movie (except the short that plays beforehand). What a jam.
goosebumps every time!
Oh god Sarah you are so right
This character is basically Elphaba and Let it Go = No Good Deed
Biggest difference? Idina’s voice does not match this character or it’s expressions.
A voice so strong was not meant for a character so cotton candy soft. ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY DIDN’T MAKE HER EMOTIONAL RANGE LARGE ENOUGH TO MATCH THE INTENSITY OF THE MUSIC??? The song is good, yeah. But the energy in the scene from this character design makes me cringe. It’s fucking Rapunzel trying to sing a song from Wicked fucking fuck what.
This was really lazy, Disney.
Elsa is an Elphaba copy
i think the big problem with the emotional range is the fact that they literally went out of their way to not make her face contort with the emotional waves of the song, because they wanted to make her stay “pretty”. if you watch Idina Menzel sing, well, pretty much anything, but especially her songs from Wicked, she is EMOTING. she is earnestly performing ev-ry sing-le syll-a-ble. she’s not “attractive” when she does it, but that doesn’t matter, because you’re not looking at her for her face, you’re looking for the feeling.
if you watch the video, the song kills, but the disconnect comes from the fact that elsa isn’t emoting. and this goes right along with all the problems of the production. it’s quite obvious the animators don’t care enough, because you have this intense song being sung by this powerhouse of a performer, and they aren’t trying to make the match; it’s all halfhearted.
and elsa, if you ask me, is a poor-man’s elphaba, because she’s not emoting. when i listen to wicked, i respond, because i hear the emotions and i remember seeing how it was performed; i cried during defying gravity because of the performance. when i watch elsa, i can see menzel in my mind’s eye performing it in the recording booth, and the difference between the two is jarring.
toni is always better at saying what I want to say so reblogging again
and you know what? It’s sad when the most emotional part of the song happens when you can’t see the character’s face:
THAT STOMP WAS THE MOST EXCITING PART OF THE WHOLE SCENE WHEN THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN:
SHE IS LIFTING A GODDAMN SHOW PALACE
THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FUCKING COOL
LOOK AT HER. AND LISTEN TO THE MUSIC. AND CRINGE AT THE UNCOMFORTABLE DISPLACEMENT OF IT ALL WITH ME
“when i watch elsa, i can see menzel in my mind’s eye performing it in the recording booth, and the difference between the two is jarring.”

((also this was the only song scene in the movie that actually made me feel anything….and now that I see it out of context it’s really mediocre, but compared to everything else, it was amazing and I called it “phenomenal” in my liveblog @_@))
The last shot is particularly guilty. Her weird bedroom eyed sexy face seemed kinda outta place.
It’s weird, because it makes me feel almost frustrated for the animators themselves, because was the rigging purposely limited so there couldn’t be as much squash and stretch/pose pushing/etc without going “off model”? Or was it a purposeful direction from the get go? Or just in the animation stage? Hrm.
I’ve yet to watch the movie a third time to focus solely on animation (I know I’m a sad person and shitty animator for it), but now that I’m looking at screenshots and remembering the scene in general, it’s kinda irksome, seeing as during the other songs, Anna had more of a emoting face? Hrmmmmmmm.
^^^All of the above are what came to mind when watching this clip.
wow if this is the best part I’m not missing much by refusing to give em my money then, huh
All of this, seriously. I haven’t seen the movie but when I watched this clip I just spent the whole time thinking that the voice and the character didn’t fit even a little bit. Now I get why it was uncomfortable to watch.
oh my god, im feeling bad because i didnt notice this…. maybe i wasnt looking to her face hard enough? let’s try it again…hm… still think it’s okay… guess i like the fact that she looks pretty while still singing a powerful song… but actually i tho she looked lost more than frustated or sad on the beggining… in that part i could feel something was wrong… oh well, im not so disappointed in me as i thought yey!
edit: BUT IDINA’S VOICE IS SO POWERFUL THAT SAVES MOST OF IT!!!!
deadsynthesizer asked: Hello beautiful I hope you're having a sexy night *wonk* wink*
*inhales microwave chicken*
My face when I read this. So sexy.
her hair absolutely fazes through her arm
but hey at least she looks hot
can /you/ do any better?
I mean god damn are you people seriously going to pick at every little thing DID YOU NOT SEE HOW FUCKING BEAUTIFUL THE BACKGROUND WAS? HOW WONDERFULLY ANIMATED THE ICE AND SNOW AND MAGIC WAS?
Not to mention how INCREDIBLE her voice sounds in this scene
But no, is all ruined because a cartoon had her hair phase through her arm
um hi as a professional 3d animator this is actually really really sloppy of them and everyone should be pointing this out
first and foremost all the backgrounds and particle effects are pretty and shiny and nice and all but it doesn’t mean anything if your character animation isn’t up to snuff because you know that’s kinda what people go to see the movie for
second there are dozens and dozens of levels of quality control in the disney studios - i’ve seen shit a thousand times less noticeable than this get people torn apart during dailies by their instructors or their superiors
lemme tell you something when i was in school one time i had spent two weeks working out a piece where a guy jumps out of a filing cabinet and there was a four frame segment where the tip of his foot collided with the edge of the cabinet as he turned around
my instructors spent almost a full half an hour drilling me on it in front of the entire class because i was too lazy to go back and fix it
so no these guys have literally no excuse whatsoever they have the best and brightest in the business and all the money in the world to back it there is absolutely no reason for that kind of supreme laziness

Imagine a wall full of circular holes, that circles can keep walking in and out of with no difficulty.
Now imagine that the triangles manage to get the resources together, after years of not being able to fit through the circle’s holes, to drill a single triangle space into the wall.
Now imagine that the circle — who previously supported the triangle’s efforts because they are well-rounded (har) and value equality — comes along and sees the construction project. But instead of being happy, they get angry.
“Well, I won’t be able to fit through your hole!!!!” the circle cries.
“I helped you get the drill!!!!” the circle shrieks.
“Make it fit me too!!!!” the circle demands.
The triangles, barely holding it together enough to get a triangle hole together, stare at the circle in confusion.
“You have all the holes you need,” the triangles explain. “This is for us. You don’t need to fit through our hole, too.”
“YOU’RE BEING UNEQUAL AND HURTING MY FEELINGS!” the circle wails. “I DON’T SUPPORT YOUR HOLE IF IT DOESN’T FIT ME TOO. GIVE ME MY DRILL BACK.”
“It’s not your drill, it’s our drill. You helped us get it, because you said you cared.”
“I ONLY CARED WHEN I THOUGHT YOU’D MAKE A HOLE EVERYONE COULD FIT THROUGH. YOU’RE PERPETUATING INEQUALITY!!!”
“Why is it up to us, the small group that has never been able to fit through the wall at all, to make a hole everyone can use? Why isn’t it up to you, the people who have been able to cross back and forth at will for years? We just want to see the other side; why are you yelling at us?”
“I DIDN’T ASK TO BE BORN A CIRCLE, OMG. I’VE HAD TO WORK HARD ALL MY LIFE TOO. YOU’RE JUST BEING BIGOTED AGAINST ME BECAUSE OF SOMETHING I CAN’T CONTROL, JUST LIKE EVERYONE IS AGAINST YOU.”
“You are interfering with our project and asking us to comfort you while we’re trying to make progress. Please leave.”
“I’m going to tell everyone about this,” the circle warns. “Nobody will support you now.”
“Apparently nobody ever did,” the triangles sigh, getting back to work.
It’s kind of sad
That we have to draw comics using colorful shapes
To explain systematic inequality to people
